Tim Gunn's Interview Grooming Tips

Q. I haven't had to look for a job in a long time and I wonder if the "serious dark suit" with white shirt and striped tie is still the right thing to wear. I know younger people dress more casually now but I want to be taken "seriously." And I need a job.

Ans. It may be time to update your wardrobe as well as your thinking. Recently Tim Gunn from Project Runway did makeovers on a few men on the Oprah show, and the emphasis was on updating the men's thinking. No one realizes how old-fashioned he or she looks until someone tells him or her about it. In his upcoming book, "Dress Like the Big Fish: How to Achieve the Image You Want and the Success You Deserve" (Bel Air Fashions Press $17.95) author Dick Lerner says make sure your hair is clean, eyeglasses updated, beard or other facial hair trimmed and fingernails clean and trimmed. Also, he suggests you buy the highest quality clothing you can afford that will last longer and look better than that bargain sport coat no one else wanted.
