Tech Sector Hiring--A Little

Q. Now that it's official that downsizing has declined for most industries, how is the technology sector faring? That's where I work. I don't sense the same feeling of desperation around me that I felt during the past two years. What is your sense?

Ans. It's better to ask the professionals, and Challenger, Gray & Christmas, Inc, a company that tracks those stats, says the tech sector fared very well this past year, reporting a 73 percent decline in year-over year-job cuts, which is more decline than the 59 percent decrease in overall cuts across all industries. But don't breathe too easily. CG&C adds that finding a job is never easy, even in the best economy.  Despite the potential for improved hiring in the New Year, there are still a lot people competing for every opening and many employers are very particular about what skills and experience they want new workers to have.
