Hurry to Holiday Job--It's already late

(Q 3)  HOW CAN CHRISTMAS START THIS EARLY?  I saw ads at Halloween from Kmart and Wal-Mart. I usually get a retail sales job during the holiday season and wonder how soon I should start applying for one this year.

(A) RIGHT NOW. THE COMMERCIAL ASPECT of the holidays seems to creep up every year and, so does the time when retailers start hiring seasonal employees. Alison Doyle, job search expert for Guide to Job Searching, reports that the holiday section of Macy's Career Center already is recruiting holiday workers for sales, store operations, call centers and distribution and fulfillment centers and that Manpower says seasonal hiring projections are up for 2013, with the primary employers of holiday workers, wholesale and retail trade expected to be up 22 percent and leisure and hospitality up 17 percent.
